Recently, AMD Ryzen 5000 series processors were launched. Compared to the previous generation processors, the new AMD Zen 3 core architecture increases the execution of instructions per cycle (IPC) by 19%, improving the performance of games and content creation. In order to maximize the performance of the AMD Ryzen 5000 series processors, AMD officially recommends that the Ryzen 5000 series be equipped with high-performance AIO liquid coolers or high-end air coolers. It is also to meet the increasing importance of heat dissipation in the development of CPUs. This is why MSI decided to join in the development of AIO cooling products, to enable players to obtain a more powerful computer and gaming performance.
As for why heat dissipation is so closely related to performance, it must start with the PBO (Precision Boost Overdrive) function of AMD processors. In short, PBO is AMD's exclusive automatic overclocking function, which is used to adjust the clock frequency within a safe range according to the current loading and temperature of the processor. If you are playing a 3A game that requires higher processor performance to run smoothly, PBO will continuously increase the processor frequency until the maximum tolerable temperature is reached. If the cooler being used has good heat dissipation, it can expand the time it will take to reach the maximum temperature, and maintain the maximum operating frequency of the processor. The current AMD 3000 and 5000 series processors' maximum temperatures are set at 90 or 95 degrees C. In addition to the performance of the processor itself, the radiator (Liquid Cooling) is also an indispensable key to how much performance can be displayed. This is why AIO liquid coolers have received increasing attention from players this year and are slowly becoming standard equipment for PC builds.
The reason why liquid coolers have such a strong heat dissipation ability is that the cold liquid coolant flows through the copper base of the water blockhead to take away the heat generated by the CPU. The liquid coolant will be cooled by the radiator and the fan. Then, it flows back to the water block to complete a heat dissipation cycle. The entire heat dissipation process is carried out inside the AIO liquid cooler, so it will not affect the heat dissipation of other components, and the heat can be directly discharged out of the system. This is the main difference between air coolers and liquid coolers and is a unique selling point of liquid coolers.
To illustrate the difference of heat dissipation between air coolers and AIO liquid coolers, we used AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600X processors with AMD’s stock cooler and MSI MAG CORELIQUID 240R to conduct AIDA 64 stress test and CineBench R20 performance measurements.

We used AIDA64 to conduct a one-hour stress test. The AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600X paired with MAG CORELIQUID 240R AIO liquid cooler can reach 4450MHz, while AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600X paired with AMD’s stock cooler can only reach 4288MHz. The difference between the two is 162MHz. In terms of temperature, AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600X reaches 66 degrees when paired with MAG CORELIQUID 240R AIO liquid cooler, while AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600X reaches 82 degrees when paired with AMD’s stock cooler. This shows that the heat dissipation effect of using a liquid cooler is better than an air cooler.
The actual results of the Cinebench R20 test have once again proved the excellent heat dissipation of liquid cooler products. When the AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600X is paired with MAG CORELIQUID 240R liquid cooler and tested Cinebench R20, the frequency was up to 4520MHz. When the AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600X is paired with AMD's stock cooler, the highest frequency is 4100MHz with a 420MHz difference between the two. A high performing liquid cooler can indeed achieve a better cooling effect, giving the processor a better frequency performance. Different processors also require different liquid cooling specifications. Here, MSI has sorted out the AIO liquid cooler combinations recommended by various processors. Players can refer to the table to purchase suitable AIO liquid coolers according to their needs.
The performance of the brand-new processor has been improved in all aspects, thus increasing the demand for CPU heat dissipation. MSI understands the needs of players, providing players with two AIO liquid coolers MAG CORELIQUID 240R and MAG CORELIQUID 360R to choose from. Both liquid coolers are compatible with the latest AMD Ryzen 5000 series. The MAG CORELIQUID's fan speed is set at 500～2000PPM, which can be selected according to the wattage of the processor and the size of the PC case. The MAG CORELIQUID AIO liquid coolers not only has good heat dissipation performance but also has a water blockhead that can rotate up to 270 degrees so that the dragon logo can be kept in the right position for good aesthetics. The special radiator design can split the hot and cold water to achieve the effect of accelerating heat dissipation.
