MSI’s MAX Motherboard Lineup

By |
MSI's lineup of B450 motherboards was so robust that they featured among the most recommended motherboards for even the latest generation of Ryzen processors from AMD. A popularity that even we couldn't anticipate.

However, AMD's products on the wonderful AM4 platform has grown past the capabilities of the BIOS chip housed in older motherboards like the B450 Tomahawk.

Until now, users had to either give up support for older gen AMD processors or live with a stripped-down version of the MSI BIOS for the foreseeable future.

With a slew of AMD releases yet to come, we want to address these issues early on.

Our MAX motherboards variants come equipped with a 32 MB BIOS chip (instead of a 16 MB chip on older B450 motherboards) that allows for support for all AM4 processors supported by the chipset and support for the familiar, full-featured MSI UEFI BIOS (Click BIOS 5).

Do YOU Need a MAX Motherboard?

Well, it depends. If you're looking for an excellent motherboard that offers immense value at its price point, the B450 MAX motherboards are an ideal choice. They replace an already-loved product with an improved product without affecting its value-oriented uniqueness.

Moreover, you get improved memory performance when using the MAX motherboards along with a 3rd Generation Ryzen processor.

AMD's 3rd Generation Ryzen processors come with an incredible boost in performance. However, if you wanted to use a B450 motherboard with a Ryzen 3000-series CPU, the only way was to grab a B450 board and use our Flash BIOS Button feature to update the BIOS to a version that added 3rd Generation Ryzen support to it.

We've done away with this ordeal when using our B450 MAX motherboards – ensuring out of the box 3rd Generation Ryzen CPU support. All you have to do is slot your CPU into the socket and complete your build. That's it!

If any of the following apply to you, we recommend grabbing a B450 MAX motherboard:

a) You just bought an AMD Ryzen 3rd Generation processor and need a value-oriented B450 motherboard that comes with out-of-the-box Ryzen 3000 series support.
b) You don't want to deal with BIOS updates and other issues before being able to use the CPU you want.
c) You'd prefer having the option of using any AM4 processor that's supported by the B450 chipset without worrying about compatibility.
d) You want access to the full-featured MSI UEFI BIOS without compromising support for any AM4 product.
e) You want a value-oriented motherboard that’ll support not only the latest AMD releases but will also have you covered for all future AM4 product releases.

Value Champions – B450 TOMAHAWK MAX and B450M MORTAR MAX

The popularity of the B450 TOMAHAWK and B450M MORTAR Motherboards is no secret. From regularly topping bestselling charts to being recommended by users in various forums, these motherboards offered immense value at their price point.

In fact, in a community-driven study of VRMs, the TOMAHAWK and MORTAR fared pretty well, sitting above any other competitor in this price segment.

Why? Here are a few standout features that are partly responsible for their popularity:

a) Flash BIOS Button – A handy feature for those who want to make their upgrade process as painless as possible. Flash BIOS Button allows users to flash their BIOS without even a CPU or RAM installed! Not only will this feature come in handy for future CPU upgrades, it also allows you to rollback BIOS update attempts that were left incomplete due to sudden power outages or accidents.

b) Extended Heatsink Design – The extended heatsink design keeps the VRMs cooler with 26% additional surface area that dissipates heat much more effectively than traditional designs.
