Answer

To secure system data, MSI provides different security locks in the BIOS, such as BIOS lock and TCG lock, and this chapter will introduce the TCG lock. For information on the BIOS lock, please refer to FAQ-11288.

TCG Storage Device Security is an SSD data security feature requiring both BIOS and the SSD to support the TCG Opal 2.0 mechanism. For MSI laptops, the BIOS of MSI Business & Productivity series notebooks powered by a 12th-generation processor or later all support TCG lock. To set up the TCG lock, please confirm that the SSDs installed on the laptops support TCG lock, and follow the steps below:

*Important:

Drive password protection is designed to enhance data security. Users are responsible for properly managing and safeguarding all drive passwords. MSI does not have any rights or access to do a password recovery or reset due to security concerns, and the related methods provided by the SSD vendors may not be supported for certain drive types or configurations. If a hard drive or solid-state drive password is lost or forgotten, access to the data on the drive may be permanently lost and unrecoverable.

Set up TCG Lock:

1. Boot up and press the Delete key when the MSI logo shows up to enter the BIOS menu.

2. Go to Security > TCG Storage device Security Configuration > select Set Admin Password or User Password to initiate the SSD password.

   (1) Admin Password: Manages SSD security settings, such as enabling or disabling TCG locking and creating or resetting the user password.

   (2) User Password: Unlocks the SSD for data access during system startup or OS boot, but does not allow any changes to SSD security or configuration settings.

3. After setting up the TCG lock, the password is required after each restart.

Remove TCG Lock:

1. Boot up the BIOS and press the Delete key when the MSI logo shows up to enter the BIOS menu.

2. Go to Security > TCG Storage device Security Configuration > select Set Admin Password or User Password.

3. Enter the current password.

4. At Create New Password, press Enter, and select Yes to remove the password.
