FAQ

Q: What does this keyboard shortcut do?

A: Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + B is a built-in Microsoft Windows keyboard shortcut. Its primary function is to restart the graphics driver directly without rebooting the system.

Q: Why does the black screen occur, and why is this action needed?

A: A black screen in Windows can be caused by various factors, including a stalled Windows process, a graphics driver issue, or incorrect display output settings. This keyboard shortcut forces the system to refresh the display signal and can effectively resolve black screens caused by a hung graphics driver.

Q: When or under what conditions should I use this key combination?

A: In addition to black screens after resuming from Sleep mode (S0ix), you can also try this keyboard shortcut first if a black screen occurs during startup, after signing in, or after a system update.

Q: How can I confirm that the command was executed successfully?

A: After pressing all four keys simultaneously, hearing a beep or seeing the screen flicker briefly indicates that the graphics driver has been successfully reset.

Q: Will using this key combination restart the computer?

A: No. This key combination does not restart the entire computer.

Q: Are there any limitations to this key combination?

A: This key combination is effective only for black screen issues caused by graphics driver abnormalities. It cannot resolve black screens caused by other issues, such as an improperly connected hardware cable or an unpowered display. If the screen remains completely black after using this key combination, it is recommended to press and hold the power button for 25 seconds to perform a firmware reset, or enter Safe Mode to update/roll back the graphics driver or perform other troubleshooting procedures.
