Answer
For MSI notebooks and handheld devices that do not come with Windows preinstalled, such as FreeDOS models, follow the steps below to install the operating system and establish a stable system environment.
This article applies to all MSI notebooks and handhelds shipped with FreeDOS.
*For detailed instructions, refer to HOW TO USE ONE TOUCH INSTALL ON THE FREEDOS PLATFORM_Notebook
*When installing Windows on an MSI handheld device, such as MSI Claw, connect a USB Type-C docking station that supports at least 65W power delivery. Connecting an external keyboard and mouse is also recommended for easier setup.
Install the Operating System
- Format the USB flash drive device to FAT32, and go to Download Windows 11 and use the Microsoft Media Creation Tool to create a Windows installation USB flash drive.
- Connect the AC adapter, and then begin the Windows installation.
- After Windows is installed, the system will enter the Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE). Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the language, region, and account settings.
Install Drivers and Software Automatically
- After entering the Windows desktop, use “ONE TOUCH INSTALL” to install all required drivers and applications. The system may restart several times during the process.
- After the driver installation is complete, go to Settings > Windows Update and repeatedly check for updates until the system is fully up to date. Alternatively, use the Live Update feature in MSI Center to scan for and install the latest drivers and applications.
*MSI Live Update is supported by MSI Center, MSI Center Pro, MSI Center M, UWP Dragon Center, and UWP Creator Center.
FAQ
Q: Does this guide apply to all MSI computers?
A: This guide is intended for users who purchased an MSI device without Windows preinstalled, such as a FreeDOS model. If your device already came with Windows preinstalled, you do not need to perform the manual installation procedure described above.
Q: Why should I not download all drivers directly from Windows Update?
A: MSI One Touch Install installs drivers and applications, such as MSI Center, that have been tested by MSI for compatibility. Using One Touch Install first establishes a stable system environment before Windows Update installs additional updates, helping reduce the risk of hardware conflicts or missing functions.
Q: What should I do if an MSI handheld device, such as Claw, powers off or is difficult to operate during installation?
A: MSI handheld devices have a limited number of USB ports. Use a USB-C docking station that supports at least 65W power delivery. This helps prevent the device from shutting down because of low battery power and allows you to connect a mouse and keyboard, making the Windows setup process easier on the smaller display.
