[Troubleshooting] Screen Freezing, stuttering, or flickering while using browsers, office programs, or other applications

If you experience display abnormalities such as screen freezing, stuttering, flickering, or image distortion, these issues are typically related to the hardware acceleration feature in the software you are using. Disabling hardware acceleration may resolve the problem. Please follow the steps below based on the software you are using.
This article applies to all MSI laptops.
-When using a browser
1. Open the browser and go to Settings
2. In the search bar, type "graphics acceleration" or "hardware acceleration
3. Disable the hardware acceleration option
4. Restart the browser
-When using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
Note: The path may vary depending on the Office version. Each Office application requires individual configuration. (The following uses Excel 2021 as an example.)
1. Go to Options > Advanced > Display
2. Check the "Disable hardware graphics acceleration" option
3. Restart the Office application
If you cannot find the "Disable hardware graphics acceleration" option using the steps above, please follow the steps below to disable hardware acceleration manually:
1. Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard to open the Run window, type [regedit], and click [OK]
2. Once the Registry Editor is open, navigate to the path corresponding to your Office version in the left panel:
Office 2010: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\Graphics
Office 2013: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Graphics
Office 2016 / 2019: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Graphics
If you cannot find the Graphics key under Common, create it manually:
a. Right-click the [Common] key, select [New], then click [Key]
b. Rename the newly created key to [Graphics]
3. Right-click on the empty space on the right side of the Graphics key, select [New], then click [DWORD (32-bit) Value]
4. Rename the newly created value to [DisableHardwareAcceleration]
5. Double-click [DisableHardwareAcceleration], change the Value data from 0 to 1, and click [OK]
6. Close the Registry Editor and restart your computer for the changes to take effect. Hardware graphics acceleration for Office will now be disabled.
-When using other software
Note: Disabling this option may affect performance in some games. Please adjust according to your needs.
1. Open Windows Settings > System > Display > Graphics
2. Disable the "Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling" option
3. Restart the system
