There will always be a certain delay in data transmission between network devices (that is, transmission through servers, terminals, network cables, and network protocols). Whether you use the most popular optical fiber or the old coaxial cable, network delays exist. This delay is almost unavoidable, but there is still a difference between high and low latency.

How to Measure Network Latency

Network latency is measured in milliseconds (ms). Generally speaking, the lower the delay, the smoother our network is. Low latency will gives us better gaming and movie-watching experience.

To check your network latency, please refer to the steps below:

1. Press “Windows Icon” + “R” key→ shows “Run” interface→ type “CMD” → click “OK”.

2. Click “OK”→ “Command Prompt”→ type: Ping+ “Space”+ IP Address + “Space” –t

3. Press the “Enter key” to start ping test. Press “Ctrl+C” to stop the test after letting it run for a while.

How to Fix Network Latency Issue

If your network latency exceeds 100ms, you would want to check the internet plan provided by your ISP (Internet Service Provider) first. Different internet plan provided by the ISP(Internet Service Provider) will affects your internet stability. Your internet speed will be slowed down when multiple users are sharing the same connection.

Try to reset your router to factory setting. This can help refreshing the internet connection and improve latency.

Try updating your antivirus to prevent malware infection. Scan and remove the malware under safe mode or format your hard disk and reinstall operating system.
