[Notebook] Magnetic Wearable Devices May Cause Black Screen or Sleep Mode

MSI laptops are equipped with a Hall sensor, typically located near the edge of the screen or one of the corners of the keyboard area. Its function is to detect when the laptop lid is closed and trigger actions like turning off the display or touchpad. When a magnetic object is placed near the Hall sensor (above, below, or beside it), the system may mistakenly detect a closed-lid state, leading to black screen or sleep mode. This design is not unique to MSI—many other brands implement similar mechanisms.

Magnetic objects that may interfere with the Hall sensor include, but are not limited to:

  • Certain smartphones or other electronic devices (with wireless charging).
  • Smartwatches.
  • Styluses with built-in magnets.
  • Magnetic jewelry or medical wristbands.
  • Other laptops or tablets placed nearby.

It is recommended to place any objects that may trigger the Hall sensor away from the notebook to avoid the system mistakenly recognizing a closed-lid state.
